Kitselas Member Applicants

As a Kitselas Member, you can enrol to vote on the Kitselas Constitution and Treaty.

If you do enrol in the Kitselas Treaty, then after the Treaty’s Effective Date, you can:

  • Vote in elections
  • Receive Treaty benefits
  • Exercise Treaty rights
  • Run for elected office
  • Attend the annual Kitselas People’s Assembly
  • Enjoy rights and freedoms described in the Kitselas Constitution

STEPS TO ENROL:

STEP 1 | Enrolment Criteria

START HERE

An individual is eligible to be enrolled under this Agreement, if that individual is:

  • of Kitselas ancestry by matrilineal or patrilineal descent and has a Demonstrated Attachment to Kitselas;
  • listed or entitled to be listed as a Band member on the Kitselas Band list pursuant to the Indian Act;
  • adopted as a Child under laws recognized in Canada, or by a Kitselas custom, by an individual eligible for enrolment under paragraphs 1 (a) or 1(b);
  • a descendant or an adopted child of an individual eligible for enrolment under paragraphs 1( a), 1( b) or 1(c) and has a Demonstrated Attachment to Kitselas; or;
  • a spouse, including a common-law spouse, of an individual eligible for enrolment under paragraphs 1(a), 1(b) or 1(c) and who is accepted under a community acceptance process set out in Kitselas Law, after the Effective Date.

Note – Criteria (e) only applies after the Treaty Effective Date and will not impact the Treaty Ratification Vote.

STEP 2 | Apply

There are a few ways that you can complete the enrolment forms:

⎙ Print the forms off at home or pick up a copy from the Treaty Office. You can fill out the forms and sign them. Drop off your signed forms or mail them to the Treaty Office: 4562 Queensway Drive, Terrace, BC V8G 3X6.

STEP 3 | Review

Kitselas Enrolment Registrar receives and reviews applications for completeness (including signature).

STEP 4 | Approved or Enrolled

Kitselas Enrolment Committee reviews applications against the enrolment criteria.
