One Week Until the Kitselas Treaty Vote: Your Voice Matters!

In just one week, on April 10, 2025, Kitselas Members will make a big decision by voting on the Kitselas Constitution and Treaty. This vote will shape our future—how we govern ourselves, care for our land, and manage our money.

What is the Treaty?

For over 30 years, Kitselas leaders have worked hard to negotiate a Treaty that gives us more control over our own future. Treaty gives us the right to make laws, similar to the laws that provinces are able to make. It also means we will create our own government that is designed by the Kitselas People and approved by us.

With self-governance, we will have more freedom to choose and control over our Treaty Settlement Lands and resources. The Kitselas People will be responsible for establishing a Constitution that will guide self-government.

The Treaty will also bring increased opportunities and ownership, improved services and control over our future and education.

With Treaty

✅ We Make the Rules – Kitselas will have the power to create our own laws.
✅ We Own the Land – The Treaty secures 95,000 acres of land for the Kitselas people.
✅ We Have Financial Security – Kitselas will receive $140 million to support our Nation now and in the future. Plus, we will continue to receive funding for all the programs and services we have now and receive annual funding for new programs and governance costs.
✅ The Treaty Can Change – It is a Living Agreement, meaning it can be updated to meet our needs.

Why This Vote Matters

This is a once-in-a-lifetime choice. If we vote “yes,” Kitselas will have more freedom and power over our future. If we vote “no,” we stay under Canada’s control through the Indian Act. Your vote is important!
