Come learn from Treaty Leaders on February 13

Posted on February 8, 2024

We’re launching a special monthly series where we’ll hear about how other Treaty Nations have made their Treaty work. Each month, we’ll hear from an experienced Treaty leader on the implementation of their Treaty and life after Treaty.

During our first Treaty Speaker Series session on February 13, 2024, at 7 pm Chief Negotiator Roy Francis of the Tla-amin Nation will share a presentation with us and then we can ask questions.

About Roy Francis
Roy Francis has served as the Chief Negotiator for the Tla’amin Nation for many years. He has had the
honour of serving in that role for the closing of the Tla’amin Final Agreement. He has very good
experience, and has many stories to share about concluding a treaty; and setting the stage for new
beginnings with the implementation of the Tla’amin Final Agreement.

Roy has also served as the Chairperson and President of Tla’amin Holdings Board; a business entity
responsible for business development for the Nation. The Nation currently owns a hotel, a forestry
operation, an aquaculture business, a land development business, and a sand and gravel operation. A
completed treaty provides a significant level of new assets; which add to the business development
foundation for the nation.

Roy has served as a former Chief, and a former band manager for the Sliammon Indian Band. Roy has
very valuable practical experience guiding a transition from governance under the Indian Act to a
contrasting self-governing environment.

We are excited to welcome Roy on February 13 to kick off our Treaty Speaker Series. Click here to join us!
